This year the kids leaned towards the Three Amigos. Julie always does a good job of creating costumes. Kids got lots of smiles at Boo at the Zoo this year, Yvette and Harlan's party and Trunk or Treat at the church last night.

Lone Star Football Festival at Cowboys Stadium

Saturday was one busy day for the Lone Star Conference.

The Lone Star Football Festival was a triple header at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington featuring Midwestern State University vs. Texas A&M Commerce University, Abilene Christian University vs. University of North Alabama and West Texas A&M University vs Texas A&M Kingsville University.

The fisheye image at midfield was captured during the coin toss of the Midwestern vs. Commerce game. I triggered the camera remotely. Luckily the coin never landed on the camera lens. Much appreciative of the head referee to allow me to place a camera at midfield.

The first ever event was first class with over 24,000 in attendance. Many thanks to Stan Wagnon, Melanie Robotham, Jay Poerner, Travis Whipple, Melissa Williams, Ron Hadfield and Lance Fleming.

Summer of 2011

Today will break the record of the most triple digit heat days in a summer for North Texas. To document this glorious occasion the Enlow family decided on a group portrait. We searched for the driest looking field which brought us to far West Texas near the town of Lamesa. We decided to go bare foot for the shoot. Dirt was so dang hot we could only last about 5 minutes.

August assignments

Usually August is one of my slowest months of the year for photo shoots. This year I had above average of shoots booked for the month. Got to do some great things with Ardent Creative for a couple of different law firms. Cook Children's and University of North Texas Health Science Center always have fun subjects with good art directors on the shoot. Always excited to get the call from Meda at 360 West magazine as no such thing as a so-so assignment with her. Randy and Allison at Texas A&M Central Texas are such fun to be around. I'm really blessed to have such great clients!!

Been in Cloudcroft, New Mexico last week or so. Celebrating Julie’s birthday and enjoying the nice weather. Staying at Julie’s parents cabin with one of the best views I’ve ever seen from a porch. This is the way to spend record temperatures in Texas.

Top 10 list of what it’s like to be in the mountains right now instead of Texas

10. Sipping on hot tea instead of ice tea.

9. Having to shut some windows at night to remove the chill.

8. Actually enjoying soup for lunch.

7. Sleeping with at least 3 blankets.

6. Temperature warmed up to 76 one day and it actually felt hot for a little bit.

5. Having trouble making sun tea because of rain.

4. Walking down the street soaked in a cool rain instead of sweat.

3. Fishing in the middle of a spring fed river that feels like walking thru the snow naked.

2. Walmart truly is the one stop shop with aisles of liquor next to the dairy aisle.

1. Driving in the jeep with the top down, wearing coats and the heater on full blast and the kid’s teeth are still chattering.

Photo above is one Noah shot of us in a freezing cold waterfall on the spring fed Rio Penasco river on the Runyan Ranch near Mayill, New Mexico. Joined the Mesilla Valley Flyfishers who have secured nearly 2 miles of fishing access on the Rio Penasco.

Been working so much lately thought I'd take Noah to work with me today.

Had a morning shoot in downtown Dallas on the 51st floor in the Bank of America building. Noah really liked the ride up that elevator.

Assignment was an attorney at the law firm. Noah was in charge of finding electrical outlets and holding the Ipad and showing the images to the attorney. He is really good at both.

Afterwards had some nice lunch prepared by Brian Olenjack. His crabcakes are amazing!

I'm not very good and fixing things that break. However I can sure as heck document the destruction. Just after midnight on Easter we woke to a massive hail storm outside. Wow that was loud. Or roof is a complete loss. The studio roof will also need to be replaced. Roofer came by today and said in his 30 years of doing roofs this is the second worse damage he has seen. Everyone including chickens are safe. We lost though at least five birds and sure to find more. Just a couple of weeks ago Jorge did such a good job getting all the fall leaves out of the property. He is going to have a fit when he comes back to mow. You can't even see the grass under the trees the twigs and leaves are so thick.

Libby's New Love

Libby has a great love for animals, more than my other two kids. So Julie found an outlet for her to experience and explore horses. Now Libby takes private English horse riding lessons at a ranch in Springtown.

Adios Bartlesville, Oklahoma - 2011 Lone Star Conference Basketball Championship

For the first week in March the last four years Bartlesville, Oklahoma has been home. The Lone Star Conference Basketball Tournament is held here. Photographing 14 basketball games in five days is a true March Madness for me. Will miss Bartlesville, Price Tower, Shane and Frances Bevel, Jeff Savage, Justin Morris along with LSC staff, LSC SID's and the hundreds of Bartlesville volunteers that make this event truly special.

The tournament will be moving to Allen, Texas next year.

First Lady Chickens

Meet Barbara, Laura Bush, Hillary "Henry" and Michelle.

We now have four new additions to the Enlow's. Introducing Henry (really named Hillary) with Noah, Laura Bush with Libby, Barbara with Jeremy and Michelle with Julie. Henry is also with Clara.

We have had the hens for about a month now. Sole purpose is fresh eggs...and a little entertainment. Only Barbara is producing but yesterday Laura Bush laid her first egg.

Julie's Grandfather built her a coop for Christmas. Now that the automated feeder and waterer are set it's very low maintenance.

Libby has been really good at catching any chicken she feels needs to be held. Noah, however, is a little more hesitant. Clara will pull off feathers if she gets the chance.

Libby's 4 year-old birthday party yesterday at the house featured a magician. Kids had lots of fun. Thanks for playing! Please note for those who came to her party don't be surprised if she names one of her play horses after you. Julie was able to locate a "Horseland" set of plastic horses.

Julie did another great job of creating family costumes this year. We had lots of looks yesterday and at least a dozen or so different strangers would stop us and grab a photo with us. Great time spent with family and friends. And to Vernon Bryant...understand you've been to every World Series game this season so you have pass this year.

Perfect Weekend--Work mixed with Family fishing time

This weekend I was assigned to shoot the Abilene Christian University football game at Eastern New Mexico State University. Sustained 30 mph winds with gusts who knows how high made for an interesting game. I was able to slip out of town a few days earlier with the family and we spent some time in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. The kids are really taking to fly fishing for rainbow trout. This was the first trip they chose to use the fly rod the entire time. Noah and Libby caught 3 rainbow trout each.

My job is usually fun but it's really a treat when not only the subject is outstanding but the folks surrounding the project are great to work with.

This Monday and Tuesday we documented another amazing remodel by David Goodroe's Designs for Living. The project was located at Mira Vista in Fort Worth.

Many thanks to David and Melissa Goodroe, David Barry, Pio Vigil, John Stankewitz and D.K. Richardson. But most of all thanks to the homeowners for your time and patience. Hope the baby is feeling better. It's always a huge inconvenience for the homeowners when we do these shoots and we are extremely thankful.

Noah, our oldest of 3 kids, had his first day of Kindergarten today. He is going to Stephen F. Austin Elementary in the Weatherford ISD. He was super excited for his first day. Mommy did better than expected. His teacher is Lacy McGaughey and he really likes her.

New Fort Worth Zoo Iguana debut

Iggy, a 1,600 pound statue that graced a New York City restaurant, was placed atop a building at the Fort Worth Zoo Tuesday. The sculpture, built by Austin artist Bob Wade, was placed by a special lift helicopter. High society from Fort Worth attended the event. Iggy will be visible from University Drive.

According to an online survey by Dallas Business Journal 12% of people agree it's okay to bring your child to work if they are quiet and aren't ill. That means out of the 672 folks who answered 88% agree they agree you can take your child to work only if it's an emergency only or never should be able to. So last night I brought my son to Dallas Presbyterian Hospital for a photo shoot of a group of doctors. Turns out he could get the doctors to smile and loosen up much better than I could. He is the new secret weapon! Below are a couple of images he shot and then the reward afterwards--Sonic ice cream.

Guys weekend April 10

Had a fun guy trip this weekend in Gorman, TX . Bucket item list completed. Called up three gobblers to within 10 yards and took two gobblers. Beards measured 10.5 and 10 inches and spurs were both 1.25 inches. Always had good shots last couple of seasons at turkey with a shotgun but kept missing. This year I switched from extra full choke to improved cylinder. Think that helped. Guys with me in the photos are Will Rushing and Jeremy Singleton. Dog is boss.

Noah enters TBall

Noah, my son who just turned 5, is really enjoying playing Tball this year. These images are from last night's game. We are lucky as we have really good coaches. They don't take the game too serious and priority numero uno is to have fun. Most of the parents behave themselves as well. Ben, one of Noah's church friends, is also on the team which makes it more fun of course..and for the parents during the "slow" times.

Just completed a five day shoot at Abilene Christian University for the university's marketing department. The shoot was a great success thanks to John Stankewitz's hard work as assistant and Amber Gilbert's superb acquiring and driving a 6 person golf cart around campus for the week.

The Birth Story of Baby Clara

When Julie woke me up frantically at 3 a.m., I was a little nervous. A few months into the pregnancy, we decided to have the baby here at the house using a team of midwives. We had recently finished a 41 hour labor run a couple days earlier and everyone was just flat exhausted.

A few minutes after I was awake, the first midwife was already here. Couple minutes later another midwife arrived and Julie’s pain started gaining so she moved to the birthing tub we’ve had setup in our sunroom for a month. Within 3 minutes in the soothing tub her water broke and the head immediately dropped. I jumped in the tub and could feel baby Clara’s full head of hair. With perfect instructions from the midwives on when to push and not to push, about 10 minutes later Clara Jewel Enlow eased out. I brought her out of the water and handed her to Julie. She was a whopping 9.2 pounds.

With Noah and Libby we had hospital births and I took photos during the birth. Being at home I had the opportunity to play an active roll. Helping Julie bring Clara into this world is by far one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had. Words can not describe it.

As I look back on the situation, I would not have wanted to change a thing. Having Clara at home with such a supportive family and stellar midwives was one of the smartest things Julie and I have done to date. We were tired of the system. We didn’t want to feel like cows standing in a germ filled line waiting for tons of paperwork while the insurance dictated healthcare procedures. Our new daughter was going to get the best birth we thought was possible.

Midwives don’t work for everyone, but they worked for us because a couple of reasons. First, Julie and Baby Clara were very healthy and had no signs of complications. Second, we had the most talented midwives we could even imagine. Their knowledge, patience, understanding and methods were incredible. Third, Cook Children’s Hospital is only a short drive from the house had an emergency arrived.

Lone Star Conference 2009 Volleyball Championship Tournament

While most folks were at the TCU or another football game over the weekend I was in Amarillo the last four days covering the LSC Volleyball championship. The teams that made the tournament where West Texas A&M, Abilene Christian University, Texas Woman's, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas A&M Kingsville, Angelo State, University of Central Oklahoma and Midwestern State.

Volleyball is a great sport to shoot as it's got peak action and good emotion. It's really good if you light the gym with strobes otherwise most those gyms are pitch black.

Palo Duro Canyon and a little of Lubbock

Had an almost week long shoot at West Texas A&M. Family came with me and we stayed at Palo Duro Canyon. That place is spectacular this time of year. Also went down to Lubbock as Julie wanted to show the kids where she went to school at Texas Tech.

Halloween at the Enlow house

My wife and I made the mistake of trying to get good photos and have a fun Halloween on Sat. That didn't work. On Halloween we were scrambling after the kid's nap so we didn't have time to take photos and visit Grandparents. So we scratched photos on Halloween and took our time yesterday (day after Halloween) for photos. Makeup looked much better and kids weren't in a rush to trick or treat.

Last night I was shooting exterior architecture. Accidentally fired off the shutter when moving the camera and this image was exposed for 3.2 seconds. Also displayed is the frame grab of the image just before and after.

Homeless treated by Volunteer Medical Students

Once a month a group of medical students from University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth donate their time to treat Homeless residents in Fort Worth. They set up shop in the second floor in one large room at the Day Labor Center off Lancaster. Apparently a couple of students from the school came up with the idea. It was very heartwarming to see the care these students were providing.

Had two after hours shoots this week after my normal clients.

On Monday evening took a few shots of my cousin Mark down in Pecan Plantation in Granbury. I really like the bottom shot of him with the river and bridge as he wants to attend Texas A&M and study geography mapping or something like that.

Last night Matt Welnack, talented art director in Fort Worth, came over to the studio and we did a few shots for his new website.

Sargent, TX

Spent the weekend with the family in Sargent, Texas. Weather wasn't too hot, caught a few fish including crab and a flounder in a crab trap. Accidentally dipped my hand in the live crab bucket instead of the live shrimp bucket. No harm done. I moved the buckets far apart after that. Libby dropped her little princess bracelet in the water while reeling in a fish. She eventually stopped crying. First Target we saw on the road she wanted to stop to get a new bracelet.

Saturday I was hired by the Granbury Chamber of Commerce to document their annual July Fourth Celebration. It's been awhile since I've shot without lights and not interacting with subjects so this was purely a photojournalism shoot, something I haven't done in a few years. Thanks to Kylee Peterson and Mike Scott with the Chamber for making the event first class. Also thanks to Granbury CVB Director Charlie McIlvain for giving me a lift on the bucket truck to capture some unique angles. Also thanks to my Dad for giving me training for this event as I shot every July Fourth in the 90's in Granbury.

Today I had the opportunity to meet some amazing kids. The kids showed up for a shoot at Cook Children's H/O Clinic in Grapevine. The facility just opened and Cook Children's Marketing Department needed some new images. It was tough watching a very strong patient get her port cleaned and messed with. I can't imagine how my wife was ever able to be an RN in the bone marrow transplant unit at Cook Children's downtown. These are special kids with incredible hearts.

Being a fulltime freelance photographer I don't shoot everyday. Julie, my wife, usually works one day a week. That leaves me at home with Noah, 4, and Libby, 2. I decided to document today (June 5, 2009) with the kids. I shot 1,233 images and edited it down to the best ten.
